How much reference is too much?

Hey everyone, I'm planning on getting my first tattoo in a few weeks. I get that you're supposed to bring in reference pictures (which I have) so the artist knows what you want done. However, an acquaintance offered to do a commission for me for free. My question is would it be insulting to the tattoo artist if I literally brought in a piece of paper and said that's what I want exactly?
